Privacy Policy

This policy explains what StreamTest collects, why, and the choices you have. Our guiding principle is to collect as little as possible: there are no third-party advertising or tracking scripts anywhere on the site.

What we collect

• Streams you test on our servers. When you run a server-side test, we store the URL, a short preview clip and thumbnail, the detected codec/bitrate and the manifest audit. Public tests appear in the public feed; private tests (available when signed in) are visible only to you.
• An anonymous session cookie (streamtest_anon) so your results stay separate from other visitors’. It contains a random identifier only — no personal data.
• Account details, if you create one: your email address, and any name or avatar you choose. Passwords are stored only as a salted hash.
• Privacy-preserving analytics. To understand traffic we record page views with a coarse country (from Cloudflare), a referrer, and device type. We do not store your IP address; visitor counts use a rotating, one-way hash so individuals cannot be identified or tracked across days. Known bots are excluded.
• Standard server logs for security and abuse prevention, kept briefly.

Local mode: nothing reaches us

When you choose “This browser” (Local mode), the fetch and the analysis both happen on your device. The stream URL, any request headers or decryption keys you set, and the results never reach our servers. This is how you can safely test private, LAN, staging or authenticated streams.

Request headers and keys

Any custom request headers, User-Agent, Referer, cookies or ClearKey decryption keys you provide for a server-side test are used only to perform that single test and are not stored with the saved result. In shared reports, credentials and query strings are redacted.

How we use the data

• To run the tests you request and show you the results.
• To power the public feed of recently tested streams.
• To keep your history and account (if you have one).
• To measure aggregate traffic and keep the service reliable and free of abuse.
• To send account emails you request, such as password resets.

We never sell your data, and we do not share it with advertisers.

Third parties

We use Cloudflare as a CDN and security proxy, which processes network requests (including IP addresses) on our behalf to deliver and protect the site. Email is sent from our own mail server. We do not embed third-party analytics, advertising or social tracking scripts.

Cookies

We use only strictly necessary cookies: the anonymous session cookie described above, and, if you sign in, a secure session cookie. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Data retention and deletion

You can delete any test you own from your history; deletion removes the stored preview and thumbnail and revokes any shared report. To delete your account and associated data, contact [email protected].

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete your personal data, or to object to its processing. To exercise any of these, email [email protected].

Children

The service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time; material changes will be reflected in the “last updated” date above.
